Publicity is an act of making known to the media which includes TV, radio, news reporters or journalist , film makers etc. , about the company and its products and asking them to disseminate such information to the masses. In addition to this, publicity may include any such information meant to attract public attention towards a company-its products, its people or any event via a third party which may include the media.Publicity may or may not be a part of PR depending upon the circumstances. It may have positive or even negative consequences.
Examples of publicity include organizing events, contests, exhibitions, tours, sponsoring awards, scholarships etc.
